Girls’ Getaway-Le Regina Biarritz: You’ve Gotta Go!

A friend’s birthday brought us to Biarritz on a girls’ weekend, and we decided to celebrate in style at Le Regina Biarritz.

Here was a hotel that did not disappoint!  From the moment you walk through the front door you are absolutely wow’ed with the grandiose lobby area that is hands-down my favourite part of this hotel.  Let me tell you all about it.

IMG_8185As we walked into the hotel, we weren’t even checked in yet, but we were drawn into the hotel by this amazing lounge with high ceilings and luxurious furnishings.  Phones came flying out of purses and selfies were firing as the doorman swiftly gathered our bags, ready to settle us into our room.  We wanted to linger in the lobby but decided we’d check out our room, change our clothes and then come down for a drink at Le Café N, the lobby bar.IMG_8200IMG_8201The problem with this plan was that as soon as we were shown our suite, it was also so beautiful that we didn’t want to leave there either.  I suppose there could be worse problems to have.

We were guided up to the second floor where upon opening our hotel door, we found we had a private entrance area with a small hallway area, and three more doors, just for us.  There were two different rooms and the living area of our suite, each with their own entrance.

We entered the first room and loved it immediately.  It was beautifully decorated with a queen bed and a royal blue bathroom.  They must have known blue was my colour!

Walking through from that room brought us to our ‘living room’ area.  Or as the French say le salon.IMG_8123IMG_8125Before we had a chance to decide who was going to sleep on the sofa-bed, we realized that there was yet another room on the other side of the living room.  Welcomed into this room by a king sized bed and another bathroom, with a tub and waterfall shower.  We were more than happy with our rooms.  All of them!

Both rooms were outfitted with Nespresso machines, spa gift bags for us and fabulous bathroom products.  As much as we wanted to go down to enjoy the great vibe of the lobby bar, we now equally wanted to put on our bathrobes and slippers and enjoy this enormous suite with its screen tvs, fireplace and large balcony with an ocean view.IMG_8162The compromise: we put on the slippers and toasted our friend’s birthday with some Champagne in our room as we got ready for our girls’ night.

All glammed up, we finally pried ourselves out of the suite and made our way down to Le Café N where we felt like royalty in this amazing atmosphere.  Seriously.  We had a dinner reservation that we no longer wanted to keep and plans that we now wanted to change.  This hotel lobby was where it’s at.  When this is your home base, there’s no need to go anywhere else!IMG_2814Sipping Champagne, having amuse bouches and a steady stream of nibbles delivered to our table while we chatted away was the best part of our weekend.  This lobby lounge is the perfect spot to perch, catch up with girlfriends and have some fabulous drinks.IMG_8160IMG_8153

IMG_8199That night’s sleep was wonderful!  Not just because there were no kids to wake us up at 6am; but the beds, bedding and pillows were all heavenly, making it difficult to actually get up and start the day.  But when we did, we found that the ambiance of the hotel continued through the restaurant where we had breakfast and visited the spa!IMG_8167IMG_8169

I had to add this because it's not everyday that you see a giant leg of ham under a twinkling chandelier at breakfast. How very French!

Sadly for us, we were there during off-season, so we didn’t get to enjoy the pool and terraces but I can only image how great it would be with the sun beating down on a hot July day.

After a visit to the spa, and a little more relaxing in our suite we went downstairs to bid goodbye to the hotel, or less dramatically; we had to check out.  As we did that, our car was loaded for us, and left waiting at the front door.  We pulled away, and as Le Regina became but an image in the rear-view mirror, the first topic of conversation in the car was, “When are we going back?”

Thank you to Le Regina Biarritz for welcoming us as guests.  All opinions are my own.
