Finding Peace in This Little Piece of Thailand

If you follow along with the stories I share on my blog, you’ll know that on my family’s recent trip to Thailand things didn’t start out as planned. Spending a few days with our daughter in the hospital made for a bit more of an exhausting trip than we had planned. But we forged on and enjoyed the rest of our holiday.  The good thing about starting off negatively was that we were able to end on a high note; and did we ever!

We were invited to finish off our holiday at The Naka Phuket, where upon arrival we knew we were in for something unique. Take a look at the architecture of this place! There’s a modern and minimalist design that was like arriving in a little village with each suite privately tucked away between the side of a cliff and the beachfront.naka7

We arrived early in the morning because we were coming to Phuket from Koh Phi Phi. We knew our room wouldn’t be ready for us that early in the morning, so much to the kids’ delight, we headed straight for the pool!naka1

As I took it all in from the infinity pool, I was struck by how relaxing and peaceful this property was compared to some of the much busier beaches in Phuket. I was in the midst of wondering if this was a place kids were even allowed, but that thought was quickly squashed by one of the hotel staff members happily bringing my kids floating toys for the pool. It was awesome! There was a kid’s club too, but with a pool and a beach as great as they were, my kids didn’t even go and check it out. Having been away from home for awhile, the girl’s loved that there was an open grassy area to run around, with bean-bag style lounge chairs for the adults supervising(or for kids to launch themselves onto).naka2

After grabbing a bite to eat, we decided to head up to our room, and from that moment on the girls didn’t want to leave!naka3

Private infinity pool. Need I say more? I didn’t even get a chance to snap a photo before they had hopped in, and they didn’t really get out until we left—except to eat of course, but we’ll get to that later!

As my husband supervised the bathing beauties, I snuck inside to check things out, and then it was me who was no longer planning on leaving.  This was the view form our bed….

With ceiling to floor windows, it was stunning. I felt like I was at some sort of retreat.  The stress of the earlier part of our trip to Thailand had melted away. This was a little slice of paradise. When I eventually peeled myself away from the bedroom view, and my husband dragged the kids out of the pool, we went to dinner. Luckily, the view from our table was just a gorgeous as the one from our room! It was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sun set. The kids had a great time being spoiled by the staff. They got just as much attention as you’d think they would at a place like this. My daughters were on a first name basis with everyone on staff my the time our dinner was finished.

The next day called for more of the same, because why wouldn’t you, right? The private beach was lovely, but it was tough competition when you have a private pool off your suite.

With the price point of these suites at about $900 Canadian per night, it is clearly somewhere to visit for a special occasion. But if you’re looking for an unforgettably peaceful experience while in Phuket, this is the place.

Thank you to The Naka Phuket for hosting us as guests at your hotel. All opinions are my own.
