The Kensington Hotel, You Can Bring Your Kids!

IMG_8451I love Kensington in London.  The neighbourhood is beautiful to walk through, with its picture perfect buildings, beautiful museums and lovely parks.  There’s a posh feeling about the whole area.

But sometimes posh and kids don’t mix; so you can appreciate my apprehension when we pulled up to The Kensington Hotel.

We were promptly greeted by a smiling doorman with top hat and all.  Of course when you’re trying to quietly bring your kids into a hotel lobby, they choose that exact moment to be anything but quiet.  I approached reception and my children immediately fell into the skipped-my-nap, post-flight tired zone.  Tears were flowing and toddlers were clinging.  I needed to check in quickly so I could get these girls to bed!IMG_8444When we got our room, any worries I had about kids not being welcome in such a high end hotel disappeared immediately.  We were staying in the Brompton Suite and we opened the door to find that the sitting room had been transformed into a page from a children’s fairytale book.IMG_8318There was a tent set up in the middle of the room with a lantern inside and wooden toys placed throughout the room.  There was everything from rocking horses, to tractors and ride-on wooden cars for my kids to entertain themselves.  Inside the tent there were colour packages for the kids and the perfect picture book on London to help them learn about the special places we’d be seeing.IMG_8335Chocolate milk and cookies were left for the kids, teddy bears were in their beds and their names were spelled out in foam bath letters in the bathroom.

IMG_8332IMG_8322 IMG_8319But my favourite touch of them all were the tiny bathrobes left for the girls.  They were too cute for words!IMG_8461I was just as impressed with the rest of our room as I was with the touches they left for the kids.  The four poster bed led to the stunning bathroom, complete with double sinks, heated towel racks and a flat screen TV that you can watch while you lie back in the clawfoot tub.IMG_8327IMG_8329The lobby and lounge area was the perfect spot to grab a book or the paper and relax in a chair by the fire.  Lounge, people watch or simply enjoy the company of fellow travelers from these ultra comfy chairs.IMG_8397IMG_8395Since I was with my kids, evening drinks weren’t in the cards for me on this trip, but I could easily envision myself sipping on a few glasses of wine at the hotel bar.  We didn’t see the nightlife; instead we stopped by when tea cups were out for breakfast.  Kids are early risers and the English do a great cup to tea, so I didn’t mind being up bright and early for breakfast since I knew what was waiting for me downstairs.IMG_8399This spot became “our table” that we sat at each morning.  The girls loved the cushions and I loved the view of my favourite London neighbourhood!IMG_8392IMG_8394IMG_8393I was right about the tea!  I had the best jasmine tea I’ve ever tasted at breakfast in The Kensington Hotel.  The first day I chose the typical English breakfast to fuel my day, because when in England, right?  But the second day I switched it up and opted for the continental breakfast, which was also fantastic and full of healthy options that I loved.

The hotel must have had a way of reading my mind.  Either that, or a lot of us travelers are alike, because after a long day of site seeing I came back to the hotel to pretty much the perfect scenario.

Turn down service must have just been done before we arrived, which means the room had been made up for the second time that day.  Everything was neat and tidy, the toys and tent were ready to be attacked by the kids, the curtains were drawn, there was fresh lavender beside the chocolate that was placed on my pillow and a special English touch: night time tea ready for steeping.IMG_8454IMG_8457IMG_8372It was a perfect way to end each day.

My kids loved all the special treatment they received at The Kensington Hotel.  They’re still cuddling their new teddy bears every night.  Their only disappointment was returning home to find that there was no longer chocolate waiting for them on their pillows before bed!  Sorry girls!

Thank you to The Kensington Hotel for hosting us as guests.  All opinions are my own.

What a fantastic surprise! It is so special when a hotel makes such an effort to make your kids feel welcomed. 🙂 I will have to add this hotel to our travel folder. We stayed in a very nice Hilton near Buckingham Palace while in London, but this hotel would have made our visit magical! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
