Spas of the World: I-Spa at The Intercontinental Hotel, Hong Kong

IMG_8017Space is at premium in Hong Kong.  There are a lot of people and sometimes because of this, personal space can be compromised when you’re in busy areas of the city.  Now picture being in that busy, overcrowded area and having a baby strapped to your chest and a toddler holding your hand.  Not much room to breathe, as you might imagine.

Of course I love the closeness of having my daughter strapped to me when we’re out and about and holding my other daughter’s hand.  But after a day of being tourists in a big, busy city, when we get back to the hotel and my children detach from me; that’s when I relax.

So imagine the relaxation when I left that hotel room to detach even further…in the comfort of a spa!

Utter bliss.IMG_8084I wasn’t sure what to expect when I entered the I-Spa at the Intercontinental Hotel, but if it was anything like the rest of the hotel, I’d be in good hands.

I was right.

I arrived at the spa in the bathrobe that was provided in my room, as suggested by the spa and was greeted with welcome tea and a warm cloth to freshen up.  They then said they were going to show me to my private suite where I’d have half an hour to relax.

My own private suite? Yes, please!IMG_8026I entered the private suite where I was shown around and then left to relax.  Alone.  No kids, no other tourists, not even any other spa guests.  Just me.  Alone.

After week of being a tourist in Hong Kong, this half hour of alone time was simply magical!

I started with the jacuzzi and a bottle of water.  Rehydrate and relax.  Two things everyone should do more often.IMG_8005Really I could have stayed in there all day but I wanted to check out the sauna.  As I warmed up I realized that the sound of the sizzle as I threw water on the rocks reminded me of being back home at camp and I loved that.  Maybe I enjoyed that sound a bit too much because I ended up with a VERY hot sauna.IMG_8025But that’s okay because I had a private steam shower right next door.  I held the steam though because I had reached my maximum capacity on warmness after getting carried away in the sauna.  So I simply cooled off in the shower and enjoyed my quiet time while listening to the mellow music in my private suite.

My spa therapist showed up, and continued to spoil me with a full body, aromatherapy massage that left me in a state of complete relaxation.IMG_8015IMG_8008 I was happy when she said to take my time after she was finished, because I wanted this feeling to last.  With another cup of tea waiting for me, I tightened my spa robe, slipped into my slippers and had a seat in the tranquility of the spa for just a bit longer, because there was definitely no personal space issues in this place!

Thank you to the I-Spa for having me as a guest.  All opinions are my own.
